| Robert Gormley's father was born in Londonderry, Ireland in the Irish free state. His mother's name was Elmira. Apparently the parents traveled with his father's work since Robert's siblings were born in five different states. Robert was and electrician for construction companys. At 26 years of age (Dec 8, 1923) he married Dorothy Emma Bonnell at the Upper Alton Baptist Church. They eventually had eight children.
